On 28 June 2021, the Commission adopted two adequacy decisions for transfers of personal data to the United Kingdom, under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Law Enforcement Directive respectively.
Such a decision means that the personal data protection regime in the United Kingdom offers guarantees “essentially equivalent” to those of the European Union and that transfers of personal data to the United Kingdom can again be carried out as if they were transfers within the European Economic Area.
