LinkedIn and your data: What You Need to Know Before November 3, 2025

Starting November 3, 2025, the social network LinkedIn will, by default, train its artificial intelligence (AI) system using users’ personal data and content they create (excluding private messages), as announced in their privacy policy.

The CNPD wishes to inform LinkedIn users that they have the right to object if they do not want their data to be used for this purpose, in accordance with the right to object under Article 21 of the GDPR. This right can be easily exercised by adjusting the privacy settings of the user’s account via this link.

Although this right can be exercised at any time, the CNPD recommends doing so before November 3, 2025. After this date, the AI system will no longer be able to “unlearn,” meaning it cannot forget data that has already been used to train the system.

Finally, the CNPD reminds users that, under the GDPR’s one-stop-shop mechanism, the Irish authority (Data Protection Commission) is the competent supervisory authority for LinkedIn’s personal data processing activities.
