Following its participation in the European coordinated action on the right of access in 2024 (Coordinated Enforcement Framework or CEF), the CNPD is launching a survey this year on the implementation of the right to erasure or the “right to be forgotten” (Article 17 of the RGPD) in organisations.
In order to gain a better understanding of the implementation of the right to erasure in practice, the CNPD contacted several Luxembourg-based organisations and sent them a questionnaire on the subject.
The results of the joint initiative will be analysed in a coordinated manner and aggregated in order to obtain more in-depth information on the subject. Each participating authority will collate its results, and the EDPB (European Data Protection Board) will publish a consolidated report which will present relevant conclusions drawn from the questionnaire and propose recommendations for the organisations.
Context
The EDPB has chosen the right to erasure for his fourth annual coordinated action because it is at the heart of data protection and is one of the most frequently exercised rights in data protection; moreover, the right to erasure is the subject of many complaints received by data protection authorities. This year, 32 EEA data protection authorities are taking part in this initiative on the implementation of the right to erasure.
The initiative is part of the coordinated enforcement framework of the EDPB. The purpose of these frameworks is to promote compliance, enable data subjects to exercise their rights, raise awareness and increase the knowledge of data protection authorities.
