The CNPD participates in the 8th session of the Western European Model European Parliament (WEMEP)

The CNPD is pleased to announce its participation in the 8th session of the Western European Model European Parliament (WEMEP), organised from 31 January to 6 February 2026 by the Europ@LAML group of the Lycée Aline Mayrisch Luxembourg, national coordinator of the programme.

The WEMEP is a simulation of European parliamentary work for young people aged 16 to 19. This initiative brings together nearly 90 participants from several European countries for a week to discuss current European issues and propose concrete solutions to common challenges. The project aims to encourage civic engagement, understanding of European institutions and the development of essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and public speaking.

In this context, Alain Herrmann, Commissioner at the CNPD, will act as an expert to support the young people in their work and discuss with them issues related to data protection, artificial intelligence and fundamental rights in the digital environment.

The CNPD is delighted to be able to support this initiative, which promotes the involvement of young people in democratic life and raises their awareness of key data protection issues. The opening ceremony of WEMEP 2026 will be held on Sunday 1 February at the Cercle Cité, in the presence of HRH Grand Duke Guillaume and Mr Xavier Bettel, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

By participating in this event, the CNPD reaffirms its commitment to education, awareness-raising and dialogue with younger generations on privacy and digital issues.
