The CNPD participated in the 10th conference of the European Consumer Centre, held on 24 September 2025 at the European Parliament in Luxembourg City.
Tine A. Larsen, Chair of the CNPD, participated in a round table discussion on the topic of online consumer targeting alongside Bob Schmitz (Legal Advisor on European Consumer Law, ULC), Amber Bechrouri (Director of European Public Policy at Amazon) and Isabelle Pérignon (Director of Consumer Policy, DG Justice and Consumers at the European Commission). Moderated by Ralph Roggenbuck, Legal Adviser at ECC France, the session explored the practice of consumer targeting in today's digital marketplace, examining its legal, ethical and practical implications. The presentation provided an overview of the evolving regulatory framework and highlighted how companies target consumers, as well as the implications for consumer behaviour and data protection.
Other sessions of the day addressed topics such as cryptocurrencies and the trustworthiness of sustainability statements.
Organised by ECC Luxembourg under the patronage of the European Parliament, the event marked the 20th anniversary of the wider ECC network. It brought together European officials such as Marc Angel, Quaestor of the European Parliament, and Anne Calteux, Representative of the European Commission in Luxembourg. They were joined by policymakers and politicians including Martine Hansen, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture and Minister for Consumer Protection, business representatives and consumers to discuss the evolving challenges of consumer protection in a digitalised and offline market.
