With the summer season approaching, the CNPD reminds operators of tourist accommodation that, as part of their obligation to complete an accommodation record for every traveller aged 15 or over and for every stay (in accordance with the law of 28 February 2025), they may inspect their customers’ identity documents but must not under any circumstances make a copy of them.
Such copying is contrary to the principle of data minimisation set out in Article 5(1)(c) of the GDPR.
The CNPD thanks stakeholders in the sector for their vigilance on this point and informs them that a nationwide inspection campaign will be launched during the summer.
