Legislative texts no longer in force

The following texts are no longer in force. They are nevertheless useful for comparison and for understanding decisions made before 2018.

  • Former Data Protection Act (1979)

Official title: Act regulating the use of personal data in computerised processing

This is the previous version of the Amended Act of 2 August 2002. The Act was amended substantially in 1992, and most of the provisions of the 1979 Act were rendered obsolete by the new Act in 2002.

Regulations adopted in implementation of the 1979 Act remain in force, however, unless they are contrary to the provisions of the new 2002 Act or as long as they have not been replaced by new provisions

  • Community Directive 97/66/CE (former "Telecommunications Directive") (1997)

Official title: Directive 97/66/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning the processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the telecommunications sector

This European Directive, replaced on 12 July 2002 by Directive 2002/58/EC, was the first text specifically regulating the field of telecommunications within the Community's legal framework for data protection.
